In the current economic and political climate, there is a strong emphasis across public services on “the bottom line”.
Local 350 works on your behalf to ensure that teaching and learning remain our top priorities and that “the bottom line” does not interfere with our dedication to education. We are here to supply the necessary reminder that public service is not just about efficiencies. We are dedicated to our citizenry and protecting those who are devoted accordingly.
Local 350’s efforts over the years have earned us strong labour relations that have directly resulted in many gains for our members. These gains become apparent when Local 350 members find themselves in provincial working groups or are attending conferences and are able to compare stories concerning the working environment. We are proud to be the jewel in the system.
Some of our recent achievements (which have not been the norm at community colleges) include:
- Ongoing hiring of full-time faculty members
- Enabled communications through our college supported systems
- Regular forums between management and our local to identify issues and be proactive
- Full year workload planning
While stewards exist in many departments, you do not have any one single contact person. Please connect with any and all of us. Our stewards devote countless volunteer hours to support our union and to support you. Much of what we do is behind the backdrop. We maintain that this is the best way to have meaningful support for you.
Our “bottom line” is that we are here for you and encourage your involvement with us in recognizing that higher education should be a given, not a privilege.
